TAPO Security Camera Converted to 1-Inch Ball Mount – Mounting and Adjustment Have Become Perfectly Balanced

Alright, so I installed a TAPO security camera the other day.
You could mount the unit directly with tapping screws, but
thinking about the future, you don’t really want to attach and detach it from the wood multiple times, right?

When I converted it to a 1-inch ball mount, which is familiar from bikes and photography,
both attachment/detachment and adjustment became incredibly easy.

When installing a security camera,
you often think things like “Hmm, this angle isn’t quite right” or “I want it a bit more level,” and
“Swapping the SD card is a hassle,” and honestly there are quite a few such issues.
This setup clears all of that in one go.
Once you set it up properly the first time, everything is smooth sailing from then on.

In the extreme case, you can even mount a GoPro on it.

These two can do the same thing!

You need two ball mounts and one arm per camera.
And again, the stuff this person recommends costs money, doesn’t it?

But in this case, once you get everything set up, you can reuse it next time.
And even if you stop using it, you can “keep it as camera equipment stock,” which is quite useful.

It’s wonderful that these kinds of items can be easily purchased cheaply on Amazon these days.

Mounting is simple – “cable ties” and “wood screws”

Four cable ties are enough to secure something the size of a camera.
You could tighten it down completely, but this approach is actually quite effective?

After all, in about two years some even better new product will probably come out.
At that point, I’m planning to cut the cable ties and sell it on Mercari.

I’ll mount it directly to the log.
Since there’s a risk of the wood splitting, be sure to drill a pilot hole before fastening.

I use
Vessel Pilot Drill 4mm <Woodworking Drill Bit AHD-4
and can easily drill clean pilot holes.

I wish I’d converted to a ball mount sooner

You can make adjustments that go beyond the camera’s pan-tilt capabilities, which is extremely satisfying.
I think most people have felt like “I wish I could fine-tune this a bit more…”

What about durability?
It’s at the level that can withstand action cams on bikes, cars, and bicycles.
Since it’s just a fixed mount with no moving parts, there’s no need to worry.

Got excited and converted all the security cameras to ball mounts

I plan to finish the wiring next week.

Anyway, it’s incredibly helpful that you can install it cleanly and adjust it so easily.
With this mounting method, replacing the security camera should be very easy too.

When the shop opens, I’ll install cameras using this method!
