I purchased the National Food Waste Processor MS-N21 at the end of July 2007 and this is a status report through the end of September★
I know some of you guys who don’t cook are probably thinking, “Who would actually use something like this?” Well, you can skip this★
To all you married folks and people who do the cooking:
How do you handle food waste like fish scraps, meat trimmings, and vegetable peels?
Well, normally you just throw it out on trash day. But how do you store it until then?

Before, I’d just ignore it, tie up the garbage bag, and stash it in a dead space by the front door. But summer was rough★
When you look inside the bag, fruit flies go “bzzzz!” “bzzzz!” If the bag is tied up it’s okay, but if it’s still in the trash can
they’re flying around inside, so you spray “Roach Jet” in the bag, grab it, and shake it “shake shake” like
that.
I hated the smell and the fruit flies, and I kept thinking, “What if cockroaches start showing up?!”
Being a National fan, that’s what led me to purchase the Food Waste Processor MS-N21♪
Okay, enough with the long introduction—what really matters is how it works when you actually use it, right?
【Pros】
With one processing cycle per day, food waste disappears from our house! It typically reduces to about 1/10 to 1/5 of the original volume.
No need to store food waste! Just toss it in right after cooking★
After processing, you can throw it away or, like me, use it as fertilizer for houseplants.
High processing capacity—it can handle 1 kg/3 liters per cycle (though I never fill it that much!)
It’s compact, so it doesn’t take up much space!
【Cons】
The processing noise is a bit loud! It sounds like a motorcycle brake being dragged—that kind of grinding noise★
That’s the kind of sound it makes. The manual says to avoid wet things, large pieces, and hard items, but…
I use them anyway.
Two boiled eggs in their shells⇒Processed without issue
Large chicken leg bone⇒Processed without issue
Tofu⇒Processed without issue
Wet tea leaves⇒Processed without issue
One whole eggplant⇒Processed without issue
Fish bones (mackerel, horse mackerel)⇒Processed without issue
So it can handle all kinds of things! But!
Processing hard items makes it even louder, so be careful★
It’s best to run it when you’re away from home.
Some areas offer subsidies for these, so taking advantage of that is a great deal★

Why didn’t I buy this sooner? That’s all I can say. If you have a bit of extra money, it’s a highly recommended product★
