Rain or Shine: Oil-Cooled Maintenance Campaign

Thank you so much for coming all the way from Kyoto.
The bike has 40,000 kilometers on it and has been used for touring, or so I’m told.
The machine had a somewhat tired appearance.
We performed three types of maintenance.
The stem bearing was stuck in the center position. When we took it apart, sure enough, the grease was depleted and it was over-tightened.
That’s what caused the problem.
After replacement and adjustment, the handling will be much more responsive.
Fork oil change—we’re using ASH fork oil.
This oil has a really nice quality where its performance characteristics change very little over time ★
Next we performed the Deco-mainte, but the bike was so dirty that the work was quite challenging.
We went through quite a lot of shop towels, but it came out really clean.
We cleaned all the sliding parts and reassembled everything, so now the levers and pedals move back and forth smoothly and snappily.
Next came valve clearance adjustment. The engine interior is extremely clean with no signs of seizure!
The cam chain has no slack—everything looks good!
The valve timing was a bit off, but we got it dialed in perfectly.
The damper was severely worn—it was rattling badly. It wasn’t doing its job anymore.
Wow.
