As we get close to the 15th of each month, you start feeling that end-of-month vibe.
Then another week or so, and it’s the real end of the month.
Time flies.
Every year it’s like this—somehow I manage to get by, but I never seem to find enough time, or maybe I do.
Get to bed early, wake up, and get to work!
Is that all there is to it?
There’s a machine shop next to us, and it’s been pretty quiet since the end of the year.
On the 12th it was noisy from morning, so I thought they’d gotten some work in, but they were just doing a big cleaning!
Even inside the vehicles.
I wondered if they were going to close up shop.
Every time we run into each other, they ask, “How’s business? Making good money?”
When I answer, “Oh, you know, getting by,”
Usually they say, “Getting by is a good thing!” with an upbeat tone.
But the other day they said, “Getting by is fine,” with a downbeat tone.
That’s the kind of sentimental neighborhood chat we had.
