It’s gone down a lot! I didn’t know Sunstar didn’t make a kit for this, so I went with OEM
First round of hot water soak—that cleans it up roughly, then I disassemble and soak again, wash and polish the inside, then soak once more, completely dry it with a heat gun
and assemble it.
Surprisingly clean! ★
The piston is a bit rusty, and it’s got some scratches from being clamped in pliers, so it’s a goner
I’ll install a brand-new piston that a customer left behind ★ (I’ve got 10 more sets on hand!) Of course it’s on the house ★
Finishing the sides and mating surfaces with a stone too feels really nice ★
The back of the dust seal always corrodes, doesn’t it
I wonder if there’s any way to make it easier
When you do an OH on a caliper, it really does spin light
and you realize it was dragging more than you thought.
So I thought I’d take it for a test ride… and the engine cuts out when I put it in gear ★ I thought it was the sidestand switch, but it wasn’t… what the heck??? Turns out the sidestand switch wiring was plugged into the wrong place—that was the culprit… After a test ride, it’s done!
