Flat-Rate Motorcycle Inspection: The “A, B, C, D, E”

Well, well…
You’d think inspections pass easily every time, but there’s actually a surprising amount of prep work involved.
We adjust the tester so it fails as little as possible.
When fewer bikes fail, the inspection line clears out—that’s the benefit.
 

 
The tachometer cable on this SR400 wouldn’t go in no matter what, so it snapped and got stuck inside…
What? That took over an hour just to remove.
Then I installed a new one, but it doesn’t work…
What? It snapped again…? The tachometer side is seized up and won’t move!!!
No wonder it keeps breaking…
Then another 30 minutes.
Parts and labor are on the house.
 

 
Bikes like SS models have all sorts of issues—turn signals too small, missing reflectors, and so on…
We were working on stuff like that right up to the deadline.
