What’s a good guideline for when to replace the chain and sprocket?
Both mileage and time are hard to pin down…
The guideline is really the wear on the sprocket and one-sided stretch of the chain.
↑Like in the photo above, the front drive sprocket is in a “pointy” state
A fresh sprocket with plenty of teeth has very little play ★
It’s packed in tight ★
Rattling and missing teeth ★ The play from throttle ON/OFF is pretty substantial.
It looks sad ★
When you pull the worn sprocket to the left, it moves quite a bit ★
Even when you shift it to the right~
The chain rollers are getting “clack clack clack clack” hammered between them, so it’s in pretty rough working condition.
