Fairings and floating dampers come with bottom-out collars or sleeves. You want to install them properly and tighten them firmly.
Since this is a rush service, the finish is a bit rough—my apologies.
Fairing floating dampers always have a collar or sleeve that’s longer than the damper itself, and when tightened firmly, the collar or sleeve bottoms out and locks in place.
Without it, you get a mushy, uncomfortable tightness where the damper tension alone holds everything, and the result looks disappointing.
A firm, crisp tightness is an important feel. To keep things from getting messy and to avoid losing parts, I’ve added flanges to make removal and installation a bit easier.
Every now and then I see aftermarket parts with instructions like “For vibration resistance, please insert the included rubber”—really?
That’s a head-scratcher.
