The other day we had the motorcycle inspection and oil-cooled maintenance, and the exhaust pipes at two spots wouldn’t loosen, so we’re removing them. The sharp stainless steel drill bit arrived, so we’re making quick progress.
I really don’t like SUS 304 stainless steel…
If we drill center-punch holes in the two bolts beforehand, even if they break it feels easier mentally, and maybe we can get a little oil in from the back side?
Of course I made a chuck for center-punching. Eyeballing it and going for it doesn’t cut it—reliability drops. What matters is being able to do the same thing a hundred times and succeed all hundred times.
Since it’s hollow now, it’s definitely weaker. As expected it broke, so there are still three nuts on it. When I have time I’ll weld it, and if that doesn’t work I’ll try to dig it out.
Every day I wonder if it would be faster to just pull the head off.
