The head cover and cam chain tensioner are leaking oil, so let’s replace the gaskets and seals while we adjust everything.

It’s been a while since I’ve seen this. When you take it apart, you really wonder why they made the structure so complicated.

The O-rings and oil seals are pretty stiff.

Quick polish and reassembly, and we’re done. Glad we had the manual—it really helped. There are specified clearance dimensions for the valve clearances, so pay attention to those.

The tappet clearance appears to have been adjusted before, and there weren’t any major differences. I adjusted everything to the middle of the manual specification.
Unless things are really loose, I’ve rarely heard what people call “tappet noise that needs adjustment.” More often than not, it’s actually rocker arm wear noise.

We also polished the breather cover nicely

and changed the oil to Newtech to finish up.
