Inazuma 1200 GSXR1100GU74 Oil Cooler Replacement – Oil-cooled Maintenance

• Since I work alone at the shop, I can’t handle a large volume of jobs. Before requesting work, why not try looking for a shop in your neighborhood first?

• I do accept custom work, but since this is not primarily a custom shop, there are limits to what I can do.

Today we’re going to do some oil-cooled maintenance.

p1620358 p1620360
Since the muffler was already off, removing the damper was really easy. The wear looked moderate.

p1620363
I’ll apply NC100 grease so that even if micro-vibration occurs, the case side won’t wear down.

p1620364
Using a later-model damper that isn’t the through-bolt type is necessary.

p1620362
Let’s clean those hard-to-reach spots thoroughly—you only get the chance once in a while.

p1620366
Let’s also clean those other hard-to-reach areas and apply rust preventative.

p1620374
I’ll replace the generator damper. The area under the generator is another spot you only get to access once in a while.

p1620371
If you rotate it back and forth, you can feel the play. It’s worn quite a bit.
When this damper wears down, it gets surprisingly noisy and rattly.

p1620373
It was pretty stiff.

p1620375
There’s no sprocket cover, and it’s a bit wet, so let’s replace the shift seal and the neutral switch O-ring.

p1620376
It comes out easily with our special small sliding hammer.

p1620378
Done.

p1620380
I’ll remove this one too and replace its O-ring.

p1620381
Let’s clean this hard-to-reach spot while we’re at it.

p1620383
Number 9 is on there. You brought number 8, so let’s swap them.

p1620384p1620385
Like everyone’s, the head cover gets pretty dirty from heat, oil, and mud.

p1620387
Scrubbing it with a small brush at the wash station takes forever and doesn’t get it clean. With a big brush like this, we can blast away aggressively and get it spotless in no time.

p1620394 p1620393 p1620392
I also cleaned up the muffler bracket while I was at it.

p1620396
I make sure to clean around the bolts too, even if it’s just for show.

p1620397 p1620399 p1620398
I also polished the right cover nicely.

I got so caught up in all this that I forgot to photograph inside the head cover. There was hardly any scoring though—it looked good.

p1620400
I’m swapping the exhaust pipe bolts from stainless to iron. Rather than worry about galvanic corrosion or loosening, the real issue is that if they rust and seize, they’re a pain to remove. With iron bolts, even if they seize, the hole strips easily, which is a lifesaver.

p1620402 p1620403
I’ll sync the carburetors and we’re done.

It’s currently waiting for a test ride.
