The eternal classic “Z1000R Lawson Replica”—I knew about it even back when I was in high school.
It came stock with an aftermarket KERKER muffler, and I was blown away when I found out it cost hundreds of thousands of yen. There used to be a classic bike specialty shop called “Gazelle” on Route 8, and I still remember it fondly.

Just wrapping it a little bit reduces the chance of scratching it up.
I removed the front and rear calipers and front and rear masters.
The rear master is in pretty rough shape. If this is your first time taking one apart,
I guess it can’t be helped. It was all rusty.
The inlet area of the master had some corrosion, but it was relatively clean overall.
I was relieved.
The calipers are in excellent condition for a bike of this year.
The pistons have some light surface rust, so I’ll replace them while parts are available.
The internals of the rear master I ordered are completely different from the original, which is disappointing.
Hmm… I need to look into this a bit more.
Today I wanted to just cover the prep work, but everything except the rear master has already been overhauled and reinstalled. I’ll continue with part 2 tomorrow or later.
I need to do a bit of research.
