While there is no legal enforcement, a “state of emergency” might be coming soon.
I understand our customers have many concerns, so I’ll answer gently.
• Will the shop keep operating normally going forward?
• Can’t we pick up or drop off motorcycles?
• What if the inspection expires?
• Will the work get done?
● Will the shop keep operating normally going forward? ← YES!
→ Basically normal operations.
I commute between home and the shop by scooter. Since I’m the only one running Decoboco, I continue working like a home business. I have very few opportunities to meet people, so please rest assured.
Since Decoboco operates by appointment only, we don’t have random foot traffic.
* There are no loitering customers, so you can feel safe.
Unlike a restaurant, customers don’t sit in one place for long periods.
* Even if they do, it’s basically just standing and talking. We keep the place well ventilated, so please rest assured.
The exhaust fumes might even kill the coronavirus…
Other than me, there are very few opportunities for anyone to touch anything inside or outside the shop.
* The only places are the entrance or the toilet handle, really. The risk level is low.
● Can’t we pick up or drop off motorcycles? ← Somewhat.
→ Using public transportation requires extreme caution.
Have a friend, acquaintance, or spouse bring it by motorcycle.
Transport it by car.
Call a tow truck (for just the inbound trip, there’s a gray area…).
Ask me to deliver it (paid service & I’d prefer not to if possible).
● What if the inspection expires?
→ Inspection validity periods expiring between February 28 and March 31, 2020 (Reiwa 2) have been extended to April 30.
→ For pickup and delivery, using public transportation requires extreme caution.
→ Even if it expires once, … it’s tricky.
● Will the work get done? ← Somewhat. I think it’s best to order parts while they’re still available.
→ If parts or materials become scarce, the timeline could extend indefinitely.
* As long as the manufacturer has stock, we’re okay, but if they run out…
A single O-ring or oil seal can cause real problems.
Parts and materials aren’t always imported, but if even one component is made overseas, there’s a risk of delays. * Of course, the same applies domestically…
To summarize:
● Basically normal operations
● Pickup and delivery methods need coordination (same for inspections)
● Please think through what work you’d like done and consult with us first. (We can only handle so much, so modest requests are fine.) If needed, we can order and stock parts in advance. (Please pay upfront.)
I believe that with effort from each of us, including myself, infections will decline.
First, if you don’t catch it, you won’t spread it to others.
