The squealing has popped up again, so let’s try testing an urban legend fix plan.
There’s supposedly an urban legend that the pad material from back then doesn’t squeal…
In a way, you could say it was an era when non-organic materials were permitted…
For now, let’s try with what we have on hand.
We extract it, peel back the outer layer, and use it. We also adjusted the pad’s sliding condition.
Quite a bit of work…
And just to be safe, we’ll hone-polish the disc surface.
Before and after machining look like this. You get that nice whooshing sound you hear on a new disc again.

It’s a pottery wheel with a lathe chuck attached to it…
The key set replacement is complete, and on the test ride there’s zero squealing.
Now it’s just a matter of how things go once it’s fully bedded in.
On the test ride, using the brakes quite a bit, the pad bite feels weak. However, this seems to be working in our favor—softer abrasive materials might be gentler on squealing.
Cast iron pads might be quietly good too. Trying a pad replacement might open up a whole new world.
