From what I can tell, with the Obon holiday period in there and some extra work cropping up, jobs are running about 2–3 weeks behind schedule.
Here’s one tip that makes removing the carburetor a bit easier: just pull the air cleaner box back with a belt and secure it—and suddenly you think, “Wow, there’s that much clearance?”
When work goes smoothly, everything flows better and the risk drops dramatically.
Cargo straps—I found these this year and they’re fantastic. They do way more work than their price suggests.
We removed the carburetor to replace the throttle cable.
With nearly 70,000 kilometers on it, it was in pretty sharp condition, I’d say.
We gave it a light cleaning on the outside where we could reach. You might want to consider a carburetor overhaul too.
With an air cleaner box attached, it can be easier to insert the air cleaner side first.
On older bikes, the air cleaner box joints can harden or warp.
It helps to figure out the tricky spots beforehand.
We replaced the brake fluid with Golden Cruiser DO4.
Since you were concerned about rust on the tank back, I took some photos.
It looks pretty minor to me.
We replace all the fuses, including the main one.
They don’t cost much, so it’s a good part to swap out after a certain amount of time has passed.
Clean out the key slot and apply rust protection and lubricant to the fuel cap—also clean the cap’s rim.
Idle is a bit low, but we’re seeing 14.3 volts, so all good (‘ω’)ノ
I forgot to order the seat rubber, so we’re waiting on parts.
