GSX-R1100L Late Model Generator Replacement & Chain Sprocket Replacement

Since I removed the fairings halfway, here’s one shot from the side.

I said it would be done while I waited, but I’m glad they left it with me.

Yes, this is the latest model piston.
It’s cleaner and more pristine than an overhaul.

I should have checked the weight… I’m hoping it’s light… (wishful thinking)

I use a puller to extract the plate, but it’s gripping so tight it won’t come out.
Every time I pull with all my might “Heave-ho!!!” and it goes “Crack!” and pops off.

I made a sub-harness to connect to the GSXR. (Not that it’s anything fancy)
When I secure it with braided tubing and cable ties, it looks kind of like a foreign bike, don’t you think?

Let me back up a bit. When removing the plate, it’s good to remove the damper and check how far it goes in. By the way, it’s almost flush.

Since they said I could leave the battery to them, I went with the GL-PB14L-A2.
It’s an AGM gel battery that can convert from open-type to MF as-is—a great product.
The durability has been good so far.

Sticking leftover Shorai sponge on the back of the terminal nut improves serviceability.

This keeps the nut constantly lifted, reducing frustration from dropped nuts and screws not seating properly.
This leads to the next maintenance step.

The bolts also get shorter, so they can’t be reused (*^-^*)

It’s subtle, but it’s become a spec that makes you go “Oh!”

The new generator has excellent voltage regulation.
It’s tough these days since buying new ones costs an arm and a leg…

For now, I’ll order the parts, so this is on hold for the moment (*^-^*)
