Today is very sunny. It looks hot, so I don’t feel like taking it for a test ride. Now that the parts have arrived, I’m going to tackle the remaining work at full speed (*´ω`*)
I’m getting used to voice input a bit, and I’m achieving smooth input. Thanks to modern times.
I’m going to install the SP-CONNECT smartphone adapter.
It’s faster to modify an off-the-shelf product so I ordered a Lex Mount clamp . This product clamps to the handlebar and mounts to a 1-inch ball. Compatible with 1.25 inch (31.8mm) / 1-1/8 inch (28.6mm) / 1 inch (25.4mm) / 22.2mm [RM25-C21]
The ball section is threaded , and I thought I could make good use of that part. This product is well-made and comes with three types of rubber adapters to accommodate various handlebar diameters .
The body is 10mm thick so it can be laid out in various locations. The design looks great and it has a convenient hinged design, so you can attach, detach, and adjust with just one bolt .
When selecting parts like this, keeping in mind the convenience of attachment/detachment and ease of adjustment will make for a very good choice.
A miscalculation occurred. The thread pitch turned out to be 5/16 inch.
I wanted to fix M6 directly to the clamp side but it’s already too thick. I can’t fix it with M8 either. Even putting in an M6 helicoil won’t work now. . . . I thought about how to do this with as little hassle as possible.
I ground away the ball and checked what was inside
My plan is to make do with what I can currently use . Fortunately, there was a decent length, so I want to make good use of it to create an M6 boss.
Since I didn’t want it to come off or break, I nested it and welded it all the way around to secure it. This will definitely prevent any damage.
If you loosen the clamp on the handlebar side, you can adjust it front to back . If you loosen the M6 that I welded earlier, it rotates 360 degrees , so fine adjustments should be possible. Since I don’t know what smartphone will be used or what position is preferred, I’ve left the bracket side long.
This clamp has good functionality and design so it should be useful for many things.
Next I’m going to replace the throttle cable. 900mm
Nowadays, it’s convenient that inner lengths specific to TMR are being sold. A while back, mid-adjustment cables (the type with another adjustment point in the middle) were popular, but with dedicated inner lengths, the fit is perfect so there’s no need for modifications and it’s very helpful.
It’s exactly a Cinderella fit—just a little bit extra in length and it was perfect.
The throttle cable follows a gentle curve with no interference, and the handlebar turns left and right very nicely . Even changing just one handlebar requires organizing the layout of various cables and wiring. It’s a tedious job.
Next I’m going to install the temperature sensor for the Progress meter.
I routed the wiring to be easy to disconnect with 12V ON and ground in parallel . As much as possible, I avoid co-fastened grounds and V-shaped wiring for better maintainability and appearance. I also labeled everything with P-touch so there’s no confusion in the future. It’s safe for anyone to work on.
The meter is currently removed because it’s being sent for overhaul.
Lately, brake fittings have gotten expensive! Be prepared when you request them.
I made it with a simple layout so it’s easy to attach and detach . Also, the fittings are basically reusable so you’re covered if you change to a different bike, master cylinder, or caliper .
The benefit of using this TEE fitting is that you can split the line between the top and bottom. In other words, if the top is short or long due to handlebar or master cylinder changes, you only need to make the top section . *If it’s one piece from top to bottom, you have to remake the whole thing.
The fuel tank damper was worn out, so I replaced it
It’s good to replace rubber parts like this aggressively while you can get them. There are both universal and dedicated parts, so now is the time to get them while they’re available.
Now all that’s left is a test ride to finish. Sorry for the wait (*´ω`*)
