The work over the weekend just doesn’t progress at all…

I cleaned, lubricated and adjusted the stem bearing.
It’s pretty old, sticky grease.
Swapping the upper seal for a Bandit 1200 one would be even better.
The fork oil was pretty dirty.
The stroke section of the inner tube gets shiny from contact wear.
I think a dimpled or honed finish on sliding surfaces causes less damage to the oil seal than a polished one.
I chuck it in the lathe with a soft chuck and polish it by hand… (tedious)
It’s a bit hard to see, but this is what the finish looks like.
The oil seal press-fit area sometimes has corrosion.
If it’s not clean, the oil seal won’t press in smoothly.
If you have to force it in at full power, something’s wrong.
So that next time and beyond we can work smooth and mild, being kind to both the machine and ourselves.
