We’ve been having a string of brake fluid seepage issues lately. Especially with Brembo… though this time it wasn’t Brembo.
The work doesn’t finish until we find that one thing that’s causing it, so it takes time. I’m exhausted from the kitten situation, but I’m making steady progress on the work.
Today’s Custom & Maintenance Log
Vehicle: Suzuki GS1200SS
Today’s Theme: Installing top-tier parts to dramatically improve the quality of brake operation!
Work Details:
Replacing the same Brembo master cylinder with a Brembo Radial Brake Master Cylinder. The cost difference from doing an overhaul isn’t that much.
Benefits of a Radial Master:
Because the lever pull direction and piston push direction are aligned, the brakes engage linearly and directly with every squeeze. The dreaded “grabby brakes” disappear, allowing for delicate fingertip control!

The roughness of the 45-degree machining was the culprit.
The taper surfaces on the right and left are dramatically different in roughness. The left one was noticeably rough to the touch.
Now that we’ve found the cause, we’re replacing all the unions. We also need to check the mating side. These days, replacing fittings adds up to a serious bill, so we’ve been judging what’s usable and what’s not.
While we’re at it, let’s overhaul the caliper too.
Since it’s an anodized caliper, the condition is good.
I was relieved to see no debris buildup.
After cleaning, I degrease it in the oven. I want to completely eliminate any possibility of detergent residue.
The color difference between left and right is quite striking. Well, that’s a classic Brembo thing.
You can’t see both sides at the same time anyway! So it’s OK?

Using Brembo assembly fluid reduces the risk of fluid seepage. *Since I’m not sure what the difference is between the commercial version and the racing version, the commercial version here is the safer choice.
For our generation, when we think of a Brembo master, this is it.
The Brembo logo is now printed instead of embossed… sad. Since the preference is for a firmer touch, we chose the 19Φ×20.
It comes with a brake switch!
Installed and tested again.
Should be fine, but just to be safe. If this checks out, we’ll remove it again, cover it, and we’re done.
The brake switch and master tank have so many parts (;∀;) It’s incredibly complex.
I also replaced the clutch and rear brake fluid (*´ω`*) Next is the inspection and engine oil change, and we’re done!
Ultimate Control: Installing a Brembo Radial Brake Master Cylinder on a GS1200SS.
Vehicle: Suzuki GS1200SS. Topic: Upgrading the front brake system for superior feel and control. Details: After upgrading the tires and wheels, the next logical step to improve the handling of this heavy machine is the brakes. We replaced the stock axial master cylinder with a top-of-the-line Brembo Radial Brake Master Cylinder. Because a radial master pushes the piston in the same direction you pull the lever, it provides an incredibly direct and linear feel. I carefully rerouted the brake lines, checked for fairing clearance, and meticulously bled the system. Verdict: The braking feel is completely transformed. Instead of just grabbing, you can now finesse the brakes with a single finger, allowing for much smoother and more confident corner entries!
