My personal number one recommended motorcycle: the RVF 400.
It’s amazing that you could buy one for around 800,000 yen back then. But when I saw that price at the time of sale, I thought it was expensive.
This time we have a sidestand angle repair request.
First, I’ll roughly check the current angle with an angle meter.
The angle has been gradually increasing over time and it’s laying over too much.
Currently it was about 18.5 degrees.
The U-shaped part of the sidestand is opening up, which is one of the contributing factors.
The frame side thickness is about 8 mm.
So that means it’s opened up by 1 millimeter.
I’ll adjust it carefully with a vise and narrow it down.
I’ve adjusted the sidestand side. About +0.18 mm.
I think I’ve seen this before, but the sidestand receiver is worn.
This is also one of the causes.
I’ve welded up the worn area to build it back up. I’ll smooth out the surface later.
These two adjustments improved the angle by about 2 degrees. That’s still not enough, so I want to make the sole thicker.
I’ve cut out a new sole.
If you chamfer the edges with a C-face and R-face, the finish will look really great. *This is something I learned from a certain special master.
I was going to weld it directly, but the sole was already torn, so I decided to cut it off first and then weld it.
Welding is complete.
When it becomes V-shaped, there’s the question of muffler contact, so I need to be careful about the sole shape and size.
When assembled, it came out to 14.6 degrees.
Just 4 degrees difference, but it makes a huge difference.
This should make things much easier. After that, it’s just painting and we’re done.
