First inspection after purchase. The grease around the stem has melted away, but the oil residue was still holding strong, so that’s reassuring.

The condition is good. But let’s go ahead and replace it this time.
People ask if ball bearings are better… but ball bearings do feel a bit more responsive. To be honest, I think either one works fine.
Just a light wipe with a rag dampened with solvent. Thanks to the oil coating, it seems to have stayed moisturized.
Press the race in as straight as possible, taking care not to stress the frame press-fit area.
After pressing, a visual check gives you peace of mind.
You can’t see it, but the fork clamp area slides in smooth as butter—it feels great.
Since I dislike bolts, I went with ultra-low-profile ones.
Apply plenty of our usual Newtech NC100 grease and assemble.
While we had it apart, I also oiled the speedometer cable.
Check the axle to make sure it’s not bent. No issues found.
It’s nice when a faired bike has good lines even with the fairing off.
If I were more business-minded, I’d make and sell frame stands…
Ours has adjustable height and width. Jacks and front stands become a hassle and go unused. To be continued
