Whether or not it has anodizing makes a huge difference in longevity. It’s rare to find an anodized caliper with severe seal groove damage. Anodized equals easier work equals happiness—that’s the rule.
The seal condition is pretty average, I’d say? It turned out better than I expected.
One thing I realized this time is that this pad grease seems like it could be quite the troublemaker.
I personally dislike anything oily, so I basically don’t apply it. If it reduces or eliminates squealing, then that’s fine.
I’ve been thinking that this oil content might actually be causing unexpected stiffness.
We’re going to reuse it, so first let’s inspect it.
For anodized calipers, I just blast them with a high-pressure washer. It’s much faster than scrubbing away.
After that, I give it a little heat in the oven. Extra moisture evaporates, which means less corrosion and peace of mind.
