This Bandit 1200 is already from 2004, so it’s 14 years old now… time really flies. I guess I’m getting old too.
So that’s why we’re doing oil-cooled maintenance.
We’re replacing the engine damper. It’s taken quite a bit of vibration. The engine must have been used pretty hard.
We give it a good cleaning while we’re at it.
The wear on the case side isn’t too bad.
This is a later-model damper. Is this from a Bandit too? I wonder if it’s just the final version. I know about these things, but not everything in detail.
The bolts are so much shorter now—that’s weight reduction too.
We use through-bolt dampers on GSX-R models when installing engine sliders.
We apply grease for smooth insertion and to prevent case wear.
When we remove it, we give it a thorough cleaning and rust protection.
Did this happen when the Moriwaki engine slider was installed? You shouldn’t force bolts in.
I’m thinking it might be a helicoil. But no problem. Lucky the bolt gave way instead?
Important note on using a GSX-R1100 round oil cooler: keep the oil lines at least 5–10 mm apart so they don’t touch.
When we test it, we’re pretty lucky. Only the bracket is touching. If a hose got cut, oil would spray everywhere.
Bend the pipe carefully, watching how it sits, and try not to put stress on it. Safety first.
People sometimes ask if it’s okay to bend it, but the pipe is straight to begin with, so yes, it’s fine.
Just don’t bend it so hard that it collapses.
Starter motor O-ring replacement. We also wipe it down with rust-preventive oil and hope it stays rust-free and lasts a long time.
We spray rust-preventive oil on the underside we removed and clean it up too.
Fourteen years already? Or still just fourteen? It’s still elastic and doesn’t look like it’s overheated much.
We hand-polish the generator too. You can’t see it, but when it’s clean, there’s extra satisfaction when you put it back together.
We apply thread compound to the clutch push rod and shift shaft.
We’re aiming for rust prevention.
Not good. The chain oil turned into grease, and when we removed it, the condition underneath was amazingly clean. Oil must prevent oxidation.
I think cleanliness is the foundation of rust prevention.
