④GSX-R750 GR71 Carburettor maintenance + OH Deco-mainte Fairing replacement and more

Let’s continue.

The chain gets a thorough scrubbing and cleaning. It looks like it’ll need replacing soon anyway.

I do quite a bit of meticulous cleaning. If I don’t do it, nobody will.
I try to reduce the spots that are unpleasant to touch.

Even if it’s just for appearance, it feels good, and assembly goes more carefully.

Since the owner can’t get to or work on the back side, we keep it clean too.

The axle shaft looks fine.

Lucky for the customer—a brand new one that someone threw away the other day saying it didn’t fit.
Sure enough, one side wasn’t 20 mm, so it wouldn’t go in. (Looks like there were two washers on the nut side.)

I should have fixed it then, but instead I punched it out to 20 mm and gave it new life from the trash. I’ll give it to you.

Let’s replace the hub damper too. Suzuki dampers are really tough.

The bearings look fine. The hub side was already missing some, so I added a bit more.

The caliper is in pretty rough shape, but it works surprisingly well.

Let’s clean the disc too. It’s got serious step wear. For now, I’ll just make a note of it.

Take the brake pedal area apart, clean it, and oil it—suddenly it moves smoothly. That’s all it takes.

The stand mounting was loose. And then… well, thirty years of buildup.
Sometimes I think about it differently. “Thirty years of neglect and that’s all the dirt?” “Thirty years of grime washes away in minutes with solvent—no problem at all?” I stay positive and keep washing.

When the lower end is clean, it really pops.

Well, clean it anyway. I just thought the original stand looks pretty cool.

The plug is a number 9, but I’m dropping it to number 8. That works better around town.
