Let’s perform a valve clearance adjustment.
To be honest, I don’t think valve noise gets too bad very often. What does happen is the cam can seize, the rocker arm wears down, and the knocking noise gets severe.
I’ve rarely seen the valve clearance get too tight. It’s a well-designed, low-maintenance engine, and I have to admire that.

Everything was in excellent condition with no seizing. The valve clearances were all nicely aligned, running just a bit on the loose side.
The owner has been changing the engine oil regularly, so the inside is clean and reassuring.
The carburettor is currently undergoing overhaul, so hopefully the color will improve a bit more.
All readings from #1 through #4 were reassuringly good.
The breather cover was polished up nice and clean.
I gave it a slight stepped profile.
