Today we’re working on the front end prep.
The corrosion is pretty severe, as you’d expect. It’s a 1989 model, so it’s been 28 years now.
The oil is nicely dirty too.
It takes about 20 minutes per side to clean it up like this.
Both sides are done. Once you strip away the old layer, it’s suddenly clean.
That semi-gloss aluminum bare metal looks great.
We’re coating it with clear and letting it dry.
Moving on to stem bearing replacement.
There were more photos, but for some reason they didn’t save—a little trouble there—so we have fewer shots.
We packed it with NC100 grease and assembled it properly.
The wheel bearing grease has gotten sticky too.
Let’s clean out those holes thoroughly.
We’ll replace the bolts too. I’d like to do something about the inner part as well…
