Originally we planned to cut the tail pipe and modify the layout, but it turned out to be a mounting error, so let’s fabricate an extension bracket instead.
This is the low position where something looks off. There’s plenty of clearance under the step, so we had planned to cut the tail pipe in a couple of places and raise it, but when we removed the tail pipe bracket under the step, it fit perfectly against it.
Hmm… it’s tight. With this little clearance, even cutting forcefully would be difficult, so we switched to the original request for bracket fabrication.
Raising it is possible, but we’d also have to remove the tandem step and need an even more elaborate bracket, which means higher costs. We guessed at the price of this used muffler and decided against it.
We quickly cut and machined aluminum 2017 to make it. Since machining isn’t our main business, this level of workmanship is about our limit. A custom shop or machine shop would achieve a sharper finish.
We’re reusing the stainless steel silencer band. A bit of polishing gives it a titanium-like finish. Shiny is surprisingly cheap-looking.
If the load hangs downward and the bolt tightens in that direction, this kind of suspension is fine.
If the layout goes the other way, it will loosen, so care is needed.
