GSX-R750RR Today we’re starting with oil-cooled maintenance.

Unbelievable—only 2,000 kilometers! The damper still had plenty of tension.

The generator damper is in quite good condition too, with little sign of wear.

As expected, there was no cam scuffing.

No sludge at all—it’s amazing how it looks like brand new parts being assembled.

The cam chain was a bit slack, so I tightened it. Cam chains don’t stretch uniformly all the way around.
Over-tensioning increases friction and puts stress on various parts. A loose chain means the valve timing is constantly shifting with throttle opening and closing. That said, it’s only a few degrees.
Still, just a few degrees.

This type uses a spring to automatically take up slack, but it might not engage unless the chain gets really loose.
