The dirt inside the sprocket cover is quite stubborn. Old grime is tough to remove.
The counter shaft shows no damage, which is reassuring.

Is the spline the same as Suzuki’s? It’s close, so lock washers might work, but the spline is shorter than expected.
It’s best to make it physically impossible to come loose.

On bikes from this era, the mating surface is plastic, so the feel isn’t ideal. There are various aftermarket options, but this time we’ll just clean, lubricate, and adjust.

While we’re at it, let’s replace the clutch cable too. It’s worn quite a bit, but for now we’ll leave it as is.

As you pointed out, let’s replace the air filter too.

I couldn’t help but exclaim. We were able to adjust everything from stock and get the cover back on.

While we’re at it, let’s adjust the points too. We should check the timing as well, so the timing light makes a rare appearance.
