Now, the tachometer problem. ★
The needle works, of course, but it wavers…
It wavers at idle, and it wavers after revving too.
There’s definitely an issue…
The meter comes with a 1 MΩ resistor attached.
The instruction was to install it to stop the wavering, so I cut the wires I’d carefully bundled and spliced it in.
Alright…
Hmm, it doesn’t work at all now. The needle won’t move.
After that, Manager Katsuwo remembered adjusting Watanabe with various resistors the other day.
We borrowed some, but swapping them in and out was a pain.
In the end, we sourced parts from an electronics site
 

 
and switched to a variable resistor.
When we dial it in just right, it works great. ★
Above 4,000 rpm is inside the shop, so we can’t tell.
Since something like this could happen again in the future, we made a few extra, including a test unit.
Once the anodizing comes back, we’ll test ride it and call it done!
