The “In Between”

Well,
for some reason we’ve been getting a lot of CR carburetors lately.
I’m finally starting to get the hang of how they work.
To be honest, I’m still pretty uncomfortable with them.

The fixed jet block from below and
the needle jet and primary choke really make you think.
The thinness of the fixed boss on the jet block—
and then the needle jet pressing down on it from above.
You don’t tighten it that much,
but when you see corrosion and breakage like we had the other day, you start to worry whether there are cracks in the block.
And the block sits inside the throttle valve,
so I don’t think there’s that much contact,
but I’d like to tighten it where it seats well.

The FCR is set up so the body bottoms out, which is reassuring.

This jet needle cap is the ★
If it loosens, the needle rattles up and down—some play is necessary,
but I wonder if there’s a way to make it work better?

Tightening this valve plate is also something I’m not great at.
It really makes you feel the age of the carburetor.
