The “Close Clearance Solution”

Well, it’s a weekday, but I’m thrilled that two customers came to pick up their bikes.
One of them picked up the Bandit with the round oil cooler,
and they’d even swapped it to a stock muffler for the inspection.
The oil cooler pipes and exhaust pipe are too close together—it’s dangerous! ★
I figured they’d swap the muffler back when they got home, but…
It’s a slip-on!
….
Hmm, what do we do?
Ideally…
Right now?
We took everything apart to figure it out.
Option 1: Push the union in tighter—even at the best angle we could only gain 3mm, and there’s an issue with the oil pan female thread length, so that’s out.
Option 2: Modify the exhaust pipe to move it forward. That’s not an option.
Option 3: Rebend the pipe.
The pipe is already bent to nearly 120 degrees, so there’s no way to work with it.
Option 4: Heat the exhaust pipe and dent it inward.
That’s the one! I didn’t want to remove the muffler, so I asked them to do it themselves.
They said it was fine even though we didn’t have a nice sheet metal hammer,
and went at it—*clang clang clang*

↑Version 1 ★ We dented it a bit more to secure proper clearance.

Make sure to apply heat-resistant coating to the exhaust pipe.
So that’s how it works—if you bring snacks, you get service! ★
Our schedule’s all thrown off now.
