The self-steering engages smoothly and I really recommend it.
Back in the day we used a different chassis grease than we do now.
Like the chassis grease from Mercedes and such (green color)
It’s stiff, or you could say it has a lot of viscosity, and that alone makes things heavy.
Since the frame gets hot, we couldn’t use grease that was too soft.
Grease would ooze out from below the neck, and we’d think “this will be bone dry in a year”
That kind of thing.
But the “Newtech grease” we use now—I forget the name—it’s really well balanced.
The steering is low-viscosity so it’s smooth and doesn’t drip★
Well, the lower seal might be better too, I suppose.
It’s good for the lever pivot and pedal pivot too. If you take off the side stand and lubricate it,
You think, “wow, the side stand moves this smoothly?”★
The parts that are a hassle to remove—take them off, clean them, and apply a thin, even coat of grease, and you get a real sense of satisfaction.
This works great on refrigerator and microwave hinges too!
