The other day I got a call saying an engine was up on Yahoo Auctions. Only thirty minutes left…
Of course I was out, and I’d never checked my phone from there before, so I couldn’t.
I had someone buy it for me anyway—for a thousand yen.
Even with shipping at 3,150 yen, it was a bargain.
When it arrived… well, it was an engine worth exactly what I paid for it.
The head had no cam holder, and the journals were all scored up.
The combustion chamber was covered in rust with severe corrosion.
The piston was 0.5 O/S but had valve contact marks, so it’s scrap.
The cylinder was rusty all over, and the fins were crumbling and falling off from weathering.
The head was E and the cylinder was S—a weird setup (E and S are different, you know).
I took the top end apart quick, then flipped it over to get at the bottom, and out came this gush of mixed water and oil…
The smell…
Anyway, I flipped it back over, and the oil pan was packed full of dirt. Oh man, oh man…
I took it apart and threw out everything I didn’t need.
I managed to get the covers, clutch housing, transmission case (with some cracks), and crankshaft (probably shot).
I’d like to do an OH on the GS engine too, you know.
But I don’t have the time for it.
