You want to be particular about bolts. You can’t tell unless you look closely, but when they come together as a collection, they become incredibly
beautiful. Bolts come in all kinds of shapes, and having them all the same just doesn’t feel right—
On the engine, you might unify the covers, then use a different hex head for the brakes, and so on.
Until recently, “taper cap” bolts were pretty common, but they’re not great for high-torque locations.
Since the head is sharpened to a taper, after repeated use the head opens up and becomes loose.
I’m not a fan of that—when you get to M10 and larger, like caliper support bolts,
they look like they’ve got barnacles on them, and it reminds me of the ocean.
Titanium is too expensive anyway, so stainless steel it is.
But for the key spots, I want to splurge a little.
