Oil-cooled engines leak oil whether they tip over to the right or to the left…
In severe cases the crankcase can crack, and that’s a sad situation.
The worst case I’ve seen was a dented frame with the head and head cover scraped up too.
You really want to think of it as insurance and install one. With a slider, the bike definitely won’t keep sliding after a crash.
You can keep the damage to a minimum (assuming you don’t hit anything else).
