As I wrote yesterday, I went to the Tama Land Transportation Office. Sure, it’s far, but with the structural modifications, there’s barely a spot on this Ninja that hasn’t been touched,
and the stares from people around me are intense! It’s got that subtle cool vibe to it. Anyway, I made sure to arrive with plenty of time to spare.
I got there! I stamped the paperwork and since the silencer is a Bright carbon unit, it’s pretty loud,
so I installed an SPL baffle. You can install it without drilling holes, so no worries there.
Alright, let’s do this. I lined up, and people from other shops kept staring at me—staring and staring—but
I just ignored them and waited for the inspector to arrive. “Structural modifications? What did you change?”
They measured everything with a tape measure and looked at every inch. “What’s this? What’s that? What about this?”—a barrage of questions.
I had to be careful what I said, so I just kept going “uh” and “um.”
At the end they said, “This won’t work.” (sweat)
Seriously? For real? The markings on the key cylinder—”ON/OFF/LOCK”—
I’d never heard of that before! Anyway, when they measured the sound level, they said “Ah, 101 dB!” Wait, hold on!!
They measured it outside and it’s probably resonating. There’s no way it’ll drop! The exhaust outlet is only 10 mm!
When they measured it outside, it was 97 dB. Seriously, that was close.
After that, the cylinder marking was the only issue left—everything else was done. I went outside and got a little nostalgic, then headed to the convenience store
and wandered around for about 10 minutes. I decided: “Cutter, double-sided tape, oil-based marker, and black oolong tea.”
Then I walked back to the office, sat down, and made something like what’s in the photo above—problem solved!
It’s all about how hard you can think on your feet to get out of a jam! When you’re in trouble, that’s your “survival instinct.”
I carved out a small plastic bottle cap with a cutter, scraped off the letters on the surface, and wrote on it with a marker,
then pressed it in! And wouldn’t you know it—it went in almost like a press fit, snug as could be! Perfect!
