People who aren’t really into vintage bikes probably don’t know about it? You know, the CR special, right?
No, it’s not that recent of a carburettor…
It goes way back before that… It was a truly expensive era, and it wasn’t distributed through normal channels—only a handful of top racing teams
used this kind of thing…
This is the CR900, and even Yoshimura was using Keihin carburettors up until around the 1980s…
This carburettor has a round throttle valve and a pretty light throttle feel! They used spherical bearings in all sorts of places
and really worked hard to build a four-barrel carburettor—you can feel it. The 1960s, 70s, and 80s were truly an era of trial and error,
a whirlwind! Factory parts from back then are almost like art. In an age before CNC, craftsmen made each one
carefully by hand, and I was amazed that you could push a generic design this far.
