I wanted to measure the rear suspension stroke—so I spent about four days thinking hard about how to do it.
Something that looks clean, is lightweight, and looks cool… well, that doesn’t exist.
Then I looked at the steering damper and got an idea! That’s it!
A modified seat damper stroke sensor—I measured the length and bought one.
Now let’s tear it apart! First I’ll drill out the oil inside.
As soon as I opened it, oil came gushing out. I gave it a thorough wash on the cleaning stand.
Now for installation. Since the tandem seat bracket was still there, I threaded bolts through it and the swingarm to secure it.
Of course, I had to position it with the rear suspension fully extended!
Then I removed the rear suspension and checked the stroke conversion value.
Quantum measures the value with bump input, then I remove the spring and measure the full stroke.
Dividing that by the stroke sensor reading gives me the conversion value.
I’m looking forward to seeing what kind of data it gives me.
