It’s still a fairly new bike.
There’s nothing seriously wrong with it,
but the owner noticed a few things that bothered them.★
So we got started on the maintenance work.
We remove the levers, pedals, side stand and such, clean them up nicely, and apply a thin, even coat of grease.
Hoping it stays in good shape for as long as possible.
We also lubricate the throttle cable and clean up the throttle sleeve.
It’s surprising how often they get rusty or have grease buildup that makes them stiff.
So we apply a thin, even coat of engine chain oil.
It really does move smoothly after that.
We clean up the calipers too, apply metal rubber to the pistons, and work them back and forth.
We focus more on smooth return than even extension, working it carefully.
We check the pad pin wear, inspect the pads, and chamfer them as needed.
Then we change the fluid and think, “Oh, that’s nice! The lever moves well and the feel is much better.”
After that comes the air filter, spark plug, synchronization, and so on.
It’s pretty unglamorous maintenance work. It doesn’t make a dramatic difference, but even a tiny bit
we try to make the owner feel like “Hey, it’s better now!” We work at it carefully.
Tired bikes feel a lot better mentally, so it’s actually pretty rewarding.
