When a call comes into the shop from a cell phone, I think, “Oh no, something’s wrong!”
It makes me feel really anxious.
Apparently something’s off with the transmission,
and since the symptoms weren’t clear, they had it towed in—it’s a former racing bike.
The push-pull is already making grinding noises, so “work mistake?” crosses my mind,
but “that’s pretty much impossible,” so I’m going full detective mode.
Metal shavings are falling out everywhere…
The countershaft is already rattling around in all directions…
When I remove the sprocket, the oil seal is completely blown out
and the countershaft bearing is toast.
Two years in a row spending the new year at Decoboco…
It didn’t make it to 100,000 kilometers—too bad! ★
