Today we’ll overhaul the front wheel bearing and caliper left over from yesterday.

Quite a bit of oil residue remained.

Since we’ve been asked to change the press-fit collar, we’ll take measurements before replacing it.

A quick measurement with a digital caliper.

We tried fitting one about 4/100 of an inch thinner, but it was predictably loose. Since the ABS sensor won’t be secured this way, we’ll handle it as is for now.

Now let’s move on to the caliper work.

No severe corrosion found, so we’re in good shape.

The piston condition is excellent, and there are no suspicious scratches or marks.

A light cleaning in this condition gives us peace of mind.

The rear is an anodized caliper—we’re getting close to an era where all calipers will have anodizing.

We wash it with hot water about three times.

The surface-treated piston showed no significant dimensional differences either, so we’re reassured.
