If the chrome piston rusts, light cleaning without damaging the seals is sufficient. Over-polishing only thins the chrome plating and makes it rust more easily.
If it’s severe, disassembly and replacement of the seals and piston strike a good balance in terms of both time and effectiveness.
After that, a test ride and we’re done.
