For now we’ve hung it up. I’d like to make something a bit better that can handle everything, but I’m running short on time.
The fork (+) involves fork OH with stem cleaning, lubrication, and adjustment. The bearings and races are in pretty decent shape.
It’s interesting how manufacturers have slightly different philosophies.
It’s worth knowing what they’re aiming for.
These tolerances are necessary too, and if you make things too tight, the fork left-right and stem shaft configuration can become difficult. You have to get along with a little play.

With oil-cooled bikes and such, we disassemble many of the same models, but it’s strange—some bikes come together beautifully while others only work perfectly in very specific ways. I’m always thinking about the reasons behind these mechanical phenomena.
