The old one is acting up, so it’s time to replace it.
I won’t be using these two, so I’ll dispose of them.
• I want to limit multi-tap connections to temporary or emergency use only.
• Spiral tubing doesn’t do much for heat protection. I often see it wrapped around exhaust pipes in areas where it’s melting. The key is to avoid routing it through areas where heat and layout constraints are severe.
If it’s new, it peels off easily and leaves no residue, so I’ll swap it for something else.
I choose materials with different strengths for male and female connectors. That also improves the convenience of connecting and disconnecting. Stronger isn’t always better. If you round the tape edges with a radius, they’re less likely to peel and look better too.
I’ve already sourced power before. If power and ground can be routed in parallel, it looks cleaner. Ideally, I’d rather not co-crimp ring terminals to an M6 bolt.
I think it would be safer if the male and female connector shapes had meaning too.
If there’s no need to route it through a hole, I put the female connector (image on the right) on the main harness side.
With the connector unplugged, there’s no live current, and even if it gets pinched by something, the two sides are less likely to make contact.
With a male connector, you’d get an instant short circuit. I don’t think that situation would ever happen, but I think it’s good to set up your own rules anyway.
It’s threaded right to the limit. I think it used to have a narrower section with an O-ring included.
