It’s a good idea to replace the lock nuts if possible for added peace of mind.
We apply a thin coat of thread compound to areas where rust would be a problem. It’s heat-resistant and doesn’t blow off easily, so it’s reasonably effective.
We’ve assembled the plate with the inner width matched to the others. It’s better not to have some areas tight and others loose where they’re bolted together.
