The tank rust removal and fine coating are complete, so let’s go ahead and swap it out.

We’re changing from 19×20 to 19×18-20. The 19×20 turned out to be a bit too stiff.

We’re using a Gale Speed brake switch, so we’ll remove the stock one and blank it off.

Well, the paint masking is pretty rough. If you’re going to paint, I’d prefer it to be done properly.

It looks like paint could flake off in places we don’t want, so we’re only removing the minimum necessary masking. We’re also accounting for the possibility of secondary damage, like the brush slipping during removal.

The LTD and KZ1000 have a 100 mm pin pitch.

The Z1/2 version is 95 mm. For a moment I wondered if we could make it work somehow, but the hinge width is different too, so it won’t fit.

This is what happens—it makes contact and lifts up.

This is the LTD tank we removed. If the bottom is rusty, the top is too.

A pretty sharp aluminum machined funnel.

They want you to thread into this thin wall with a sharp point…

That sharp point gets in the way, so the threads only catch lightly. It’s a scary design.

It’s only M3, so we filed it down with a Dremel to fix it.

Since it could come loose, we added a light coat of liquid gasket as insurance. I don’t think thread locker is ideal for this situation.

Well, it looks the part now. Since we had it, we went ahead and installed it.
We’re on hold waiting for parts to arrive.
