Tomorrow is a lucky day. It’s the dusty cutting work I really dislike.
Due to time constraints, I’ll just do the left and right plates and the brake pedal boss.
The more I can cut away, the less grinding work there is.
I basically pull it with a magic marker and go boing~
I used a pretty thick blade, so the cut width is fairly wide. If I wanted to, I could cut with a width under 1 mm, but the blade won’t last, so I go thick and fast.
I cut this safely on both sides.
Tap it with a plastic hammer and it goes “crack!” and breaks. If it doesn’t, I keep grinding away.
For small cuts like on a motorcycle, a regular disk grinder isn’t good at fine work.
With something around 20–25 mm diameter like this, it cuts cleanly right along the magic marker line.
It’s pretty rusty. Well, that’s only natural since there’s no paint on it.
This is already a finished rubber stone. I can grind away like this in a “shaving with a razor” kind of motion, scrubbing it smooth.
I really think people who can use a regular disk grinder without over-grinding are amazing.
And that’s how it turned out.
Dummy stem: fork span 190 mm / 41 mm diameter GSX400 Impulse.
I’ll also test the steering stem puller I introduced the other day.
Hmm, it’s working out pretty nicely. Should improve work efficiency.
205 to 190 mm, so the wheel/disk/caliper setup should fit perfectly.
Even if the math checks out, I worry until it’s actually installed.
The center came out perfectly, so I’m relieved. Next is to verify tank clearance, steering angle, and whether I can make a sloped top bridge.
The headlight bracket is the type that slides onto the Suzuki fork.
That’s probably the easiest, right? The Honda type that inserts into the upper and lower stem looks better, but it’s less practical than the Suzuki.
That’s how it works out.
If you like the look, that’s fine, but fork clamp-style headlight brackets have really poor workability, so I’d say it’s better to avoid them if you can.
