The starter motor spins but nothing happens—no sound from the engine. What could it be?
There isn’t much to check, but I started by measuring cold compression.
Then I checked for spark.
Then I looked at the air cleaner.
I wondered if something was clogged in there. I suspected a fuel petcock issue.
Hmm, nothing wrong there either. When I tried to start it in this state, it made a “brrr-rrr” sound. What??
I went ahead and replaced the air cleaner anyway.
The smell might be from too much fuel, or maybe there’s water in the tank.
I took it for a test ride around the neighborhood and didn’t see the symptom again, so I delivered it for now. Let’s keep an eye on it.
