If you apply grease heavily to the axle shaft, it will ooze out, get dirty easily, and attract debris, so be careful!
Let’s start from the rear. We’ll wipe and clean any areas we can reach when we remove them.
Plenty of layered oil buildup there.
That’s the result. It feels great when it gets this clean. If you mix in some restoration elements with your daily maintenance, I think the bike will stay in good condition for a long time.
The rear will need replacement after a bit more use.
Just applying a light rust-preventive coat makes it look so much better.
I adjusted the bearings a bit.
The sequence is probably: contact develops → the distance collar loosens and drops → the axle shaft won’t fit so you hammer it in hard → the bearing moves.
I always wonder, where exactly is center? Manufacturers that can get it right in that gray zone are impressive.
I think shaft components just need a light oiling for rust prevention.
Moving to the front. I adjusted the bearings here too.
Honestly, adding more grease doesn’t really… the benefit is… limited. Let’s keep it clean.
As long as the parts that need to rotate and rub are properly lubricated, that’s what matters.
The front axle is fine.
Penetrating oil left and right, and rear. Like dental care, let’s remove the debris once in a while.
The shift pedal is sealed, so we oil it from the outside.
The extension is quite long. Next time I should make the aluminum rod longer—that would be better.
It’s scary if you don’t check how much engagement there is in situations like this. Honestly, there are cases where shift rods and pedals are only catching by just a few millimeters…
If something like that pops out, it’s absolutely terrifying.
